Choirs

Each island choir operates according to its own idiosyncrasies, at its own pace, and adapting to the local culture. However, all EGC choirs are united around the same teaching methodology, the same repertoire, and, in general, the same way of doing things. Thanks to all this, the island-specific limitations are not a problem for singing together and uniting the groups from each island into a single choir under the name CANARIAS GOSPEL CHOIR, the adult choir, and CANARIAS TEEN GOSPEL CHOIR, the children’s and youth choir.

In 2022, the EGC plans to expand to the mainland, beginning rehearsals in Seville. This choir will be directed by Ezequiel Barrios and will operate in the same way as those on the islands. SEVILLA GOSPEL CHOIR is born.

The adult choirs are directed by Ezequiel Barrios, and the children’s choir is directed by Sonia Cárdenas.

Canarias Gospel Choir (CGC) surge de la unión de los alumnos de todas las islas en un único coro, creando un solo sonido. El coro de adultos de Canarias participa tanto en el Canarias Gospel Summit, que es la cumbre de gospel organizada por nuestra Escuela, como en el Gospel Canarias Fest, festival de gospel organizado por Xenox Producciones y que ya cuenta con su 19 ª edición. También ha realizado numerosas actuaciones y grabaciones.

Rehearsals for a new choir will begin in 2022. This is a significant challenge for our school, as it represents a move to the Iberian Peninsula. The school is forming a new choir in Seville. Concerts, workshops, and meetings between members of our school’s choirs are currently being held in Seville.

For the Canary Islands Gospel School, training is fundamental, and that is why we believe that music at an early age is necessary and a priority in this society. In accordance with this principle, we created the Canarias Teen Gospel Choir, a gospel choir for children, youth, and adolescents. This is the core of the School, which has its initial headquarters in Tenerife but aims to expand to the entire Canary Islands in the near future.

Today, our choir began its journey in January 2022 and has years of experience, including numerous concerts, workshops, and what we call “Intercambio,” an activity in which we share a weekend with choirs from other islands.

Canarias Teen Gospel Choir is directed by Sonia Cárdenas, who has extensive experience in the musical and educational fields and helps young people enjoy and learn with music in a fun and dynamic way.
